According to reports in India the body of Ranjit Singh Power has been recovered from the Anandpur Sahib forest area and a man has been arrested in connection with his disappearance, and will be appearing in court in India today.
Previously the family feared that Mr Power had been kidnapped as they had not heard from him since he arrived in India on May 7.
Gian Power, the son of Mr Power, said: “My father has been murdered in India.
“Emma and I will continue to do all we can to get answers.
“The police investigation will continue in both the UK and in India and we will continue until answers are found and justice is served.”
The Foreign Office confirmed that the missing businessman had died in India.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office added: “We are in touch with the local authorities [in India] and we are awaiting further confirmation.
“We are providing consular assistance to the family.”
Mr Power’s family have asked for privacy while they grieve.
On Friday it emerged that Mr Power may have travelled to Phagwara – which is just over 50 miles from the Anandpur Sahib forest area – after flying out to India.
In northern India, Phagwara is more than 60 miles away from Amritsar Airport in Punjab, which is where Mr Power arrived for a last-minute business trip on May 7.
Mr Power spoke to his partner Angela Bir after landing in Amritsar, but had not been seen or heard from since.
He was due to return to the UK on May 14.
Mr Power owns the Ramada Park Hall Hotel in Goldthorn Park.
